The acquisition in 2003 of the farmholding “La Zerba” di Volpedo was, for Carlo Volpi, the realisation of his father's dream. It was precisely in Volpedo, long before obtaining DOC recognition, that Barbera was produced, an excellent expression of the territory. The abandoned, derelict vineyard was discovered by Carlo Volpi. His original plan was to raze and eradicate it totally to start again from scratch . But the eminent oenologist Giuliano Noè convinced Carlo Volpi not to do so but instead to recover and restore it, which he did with outstanding results. Two years later, the first Timorasso vineyard was planted, carefully choosing, together with the trusted oenologist friend, the most suitable soil to enhance the organoleptic characteristics of this historic vine of the Tortona Hills.
The La Zerba farm is today the only wine producer in Volpedo. It produces the Tortonesi Hills DOC Barbera Superiore and Colli Tortonesi DOC Timorasso - Derthona. It has 10 hectares of vineyards, fruit trees and a certified organic production. Soon it will be able to offer accommodation to tourists eager to discover and the treasures and beauties of one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Volpedo
