Back in 1914, Cristina Volpi, together with her 2 sons, who were on the cusp of adulthood, opened an old tavern, “Il Cappel Verde” in Tortona; thus marking the beginnings of selling wine by the glass.

In 2019, thanks to an investment of more than a million euro, Cantine Volpi inaugurated its latest vinification plant which draws together all the production in the Tortona winery — from the processing of the grapes to the packaging of the finished product — decommissioning the historic Viguzzolo plant and giving life to a winemaking centre of excellence, among the first of its kind on the territory and in Piedmont. Today the family, which in 2020 saw the entry of Carlo’s son Marco, as well as his wife Laura, has Carlo at the helm of a company which produces approximately 3 million bottles per year, of which 90% is exported to 35 countries.
